Werbińska & Pawlina
Duo established by Małgorzata Werbińska and Błażej Pawlina. The laureates of the 29th Rawa Blues Festival 2009, the Vth Festival of the Blues Instrumentalists SOLÓWKA 2010 Nowa Sól – Grand Prix (edition for the vocalists), Kodex Blues Festival 2010 – Second Prize & The Instrumentalist Award for the vocal and the Blues Festiwal Flover Power Opatów 2010 – The Distinction. In the summer of 2011 they recorded the debut album “Harmony,” which received many flattering reviews, moreover songs from the album have already had their premiere in many radio stations, such as famous Radio Three, in programs of Jan Chojnacki and Wojtek Mann. W & P have played several concerts in Poland as well as abroad, including the Court in Luxembourg in May 2012. They also had an honor to support two concerts of Ray Manzarek (The Doors)-Rogers Band during their Polish tour in 2012. In September 2012, the duo performed during the live concert at the famous studio of A. Osiecka in Warsaw. Their music is joy and passion in one. The rhythm of the acoustic guitar interwoven with soulful singing. No matter what type of music they play the listener can find solace, euphoria, nostalgia and lots of energy in it. You can really hear the blues in Malgosia’s voice. Together they play such types of music as the delta blues with the folk elements of ethnic and trance music. Not to mention flamenco, hip hop rhythms or African music. Blazej’s guitar is often accompanied by looped rhythms and solo parts. The archaic sound of the Dobro guitar and the modern and booming sounds of the Gibson J-45 and baritone guitars form solid foundations for the low, sometimes melancholy, and sometimes gritty voice that Malgosia has. At their concerts, their music is mostly based on improvisation, made “on the fly”, in the here and now. The duo’s concerts are simply ideal for small or medium size events or in community centres, clubs, pubs and theatres. The music, the atmosphere and their good contact with the audience are always the highlights at their performances.
