Russian organist, pianist, harpsichordist and composer. At the age of 13, he began to play the organ and piano. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory – the piano class of Tatiana Nikolaeva and the organ class of Leonid Roizman. He continued his education in Switzerland, Sweden and Germany. In 1987 he won a prize at the International Organ Competition in Speyer (Germany), which resulted in numerous concerts.

Schmitov is a great fan of Bach’s work, he also plays works by other Baroque composers and artists from later eras. He cooperated with many excellent musicians and conductors, including Michail Pletnev, Vladimir Jurowski or OlgaKondina.

He has performed in Europe (including Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain, Portugal) and the Middle East (Israel, Lebanon, Syria). He combines his musical career with teaching. He teaches piano and organ at the Moscow Conservatory, for six years he also lectured at the Higher Institute of Theater and Music in Damascus.
