AfryKamera 2015

Enjoy a replica of the anniversary, the 10th edition of the African Film Festival AfryKamera 2015!

AfryKamera is the first in Central and Eastern Europe festival, which presents the African contribution to a world cinema. The festival is held in Warsaw and also in several smaller cities of Poland, like Białystok. This year the festival, which will take place from 27 to 30 April, we will see interesting plot, unusual documents and one extraordinary animation.

Anunusual combination of investigative journalism with a document. Award winning story of guards, who sacrifices his own life are trying to save one of the most beautiful national parks in the world. Located in East Congo Virunga National Park it’s not only one of the most biodiverse areas, but also a house of last mountain gorillas of the world’s, moreover the only orphanage for these animals. The group of people take the impossible: to save this pearl of nature against the greed of poachers, paramilitary groups, corrupt officials and Western corporations. When the rebel group declares war on the authorities of the Congo, comes to the escalation of the conflict. It shakes gained a compromise and the filmmakers and the participants of the document are in the center of events.

MZANSI – FUTURE SOUNDS OF MZANSI

An attempt to document, to discover and to present the wealf of South African culture to the world. Under the direction of Spoek Mathambo, we might discover a rich deposits of innovation and a vibrant underground music of the country as well. Over the years, music producers haven’t been widely known, but recently, musicians, creating new sounds, have became stars of the scale of the whole country. Some of them, like Watkin Tudor Jones (Project Die Antwoord) and DJ Mujava, are recognizable all over the world. We invite for an apartheid afterparty.

MARCH OF THE GODS: BOTSWANA METALHEADS

There is a universal language, which exists all over the world, its the heavy metal music. The picture of Rafael Mosca is a humorous description of an exceptional phenomenon- the birth and evolution of heavy metal music in Botswana. The document explores the original and unusual sound of Botswan guitars and drums. We find out the history of the legendary Botswan group – Wrust from the beginning to its performance with Sepultura.

AYA Z YOPOUGON/AYA DE YOPOUGON

The heroine of the film, nineteen Aya, lives in Abidjan in the 70s of the twentieth century. She is a nice and a helpful girl who with a pleasure assists her friends Bintou and Adjoua in solving their problems. Aya thinks mostly about her education, independence and self-development, but for Adjoua, a single parent such dreams are a luxury. The Bintou tookes short cuts in the arms of the French rich man.
A witty and interesting film about growing up, its presents a universal problems in a completely different context and environment. This feature film of Marguerite Aboueta and Clément Oubrerie, was realized on the basis of their own, popular comic book series of the same name. They create a beautiful feminine image of maturation on the Coast Ivory’s crucial period.

DIFRET

Difret is a drama, which based on real events. Its takes place in Ethiopia and tells the story of kidnapped and forced to marry women. 14-year-old Hirut from the small village is attacked on the way home from school. She grabs the gun and hurts one of the attackers, as a result she was arrested. Helps her a young lawyer – Meaza Ashenafi. She is so inspired of courage of young girl that gets into a conflict between the civil authority and obedience to the common law. But saving Hirut’s life might ruin professional career of Meaza Ashenafi…

Timbuktu

The action takes place in Timbuktu in Mali, where jihadists seized of power and introduced the regimen. Inhabitants are not allowed to smoke, to dance, to sing, to listen to music and even to play football. However, most victims are women, excluded from society and forced to obey absurd orders. Kisane and his family have leaded a quiet life, until the man unintentionally killed his neighbour…
The film is inspired from events of 2012, when the Islamists stoned a young couple in Aguel’hok, a small town in the north of Mali.
