“Polovinka. By Bike to the Urals, the Father’s Place of Exile. Father’s Memories, Daughter’s Memories” is an unconventional story, combining elements of a diary, reportage, travel book, essay and historical novel. It is also a tribute that the author made to her father, Zdzisław Martinka (1927-2007), a doctor from Tomaszów Lubelski. His private notes, descriptions of political events taking place in 1939-1958 were used in the book. The equal part of the book is devoted to the bicycle trip, which began in Lublin, ran through Białystok, Vilnius, Moscow, Polovinka to Yekaterinburg and took one and a half months, from August to September 2006. Agnieszka Martinka eloquently and emotionally talks about adventures, people, sunny and rainy days, accompanying her during the almost 5000 km – long trip.
