The 12th edition of DOCS AGAINST GRAVITY FILM FESTIVAL will be held in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Bydgoszcz and twenty other cities in Poland (also in Białystok). We invite for the replica of the festival during May 15-17, to the Forum Cinema in Bialystok.

The Look of Silence

The Look of Silence is Joshua Oppenheimer’s powerful companion piece to the Oscar-nominated The Act of Killing. The documentary focuses on the youngest son, an optometrist named Adi, who decides to break the suffocating spell of submission and terror by doing something unimaginable in a society where the murderers remain in power: he confronts the men who killed his brother and, while testing their eyesight, asks them to accept responsibility for their actions. In Vienna lies the UN-city, with its late 1970’s architecture and its extra-territorial status not unlike a giant spacecraft that has landed in the middle of the civilized world. Inside this impressive institution representing our belief in humanity, resides the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs – the OOSA.

The film sketches Austrians’ relationships with their basements, and also looks for answers to the questions of what makes them different and whether such special characteristics exist at all.
