Faces of ZAiKS

On the occasion of the centennial of the ZAiKS Polish Society of Authors and Composers, an organization protecting authors’ copyrights and created and managed by them, we present the exhibition of portraits of outstanding artists from various fields of Polish culture. Both the artists presented on the photographs and the photographers are asociated with the Society. The photographs are the result of professional activities of photographers at different times and circumstances, which were guided by one superior goal – a good portrait of an artist.

Photographers:

Ryszard Horowitz – photographer, specialist in the field of commercial photography and precursor of digital photography reproduction. Born on the 5th of May, 1939 in Kraków. Currently resides and works in New York City.

Krzysztof Gierałtowski – one of the most important representatives of the Polish school of photography. A brilliant interpreter of human faces, he captures his models in a very insightful, visionary way.

Wojciech Druszcz – photographer and photojournalist. He worked for the largest photo agencies such as: Agence France Presse, Reuters, AP, newspapers: Gazeta Wyborcza, Rzeczpospolita and Głos Pracy, weeklies: Kultura, Sportowiec, and more recently, Polityka.

Witold Krassowski – born in 1956, considered one of the most important contemporary Polish photoreporters. Although he studied linguistics at the University of Warsaw and the Sorbonne, he got his doctorate in photography in 2009 at the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia in Katowice; three years later he received his post-doctoral degree. To date, he still teaches, nowadays mainly at the Faculty of Media Art at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts.

Jacek Barcz – photographer. In his artistic activity, he deals mainly with journalistic photography and portraits. He is the author of a huge number of photographs, including portraits of people from the world of politics, culture, art, and significant historical, social and artistic events.

Jan Morek – born in 1940, a photojournalist for nearly 30 years associated with the Polish Agency Interpress. He specialized in the photography of official political topics, but the most important part of his work are photographs documenting the everyday life of Poles.

Zbigniew Furman – worked for “Życie Warszawy” and the weekly “Razem”. He was the owner of the photographic studio and then the Advertising Photography Studio. He was also the head of the photo section of the “Wprost” weekly. He likes to portray people the most, but he also does not avoid other topics.

Marek Szymański – press photojournalist for over 35 years. Over the last 10 years, he has been taking pictures of famous figures from the artistic world. He is the author of CD covers for: Krzysztof Krawczyk, Muńek Staszczyk, Witold Paszta and Jacek Borkowski.

Krzysztof Wojciewski – artist photographer, multiple laureate of press photography competitions. He made stills on the plans of many feature films such as: Quo Vadis, Battle of Warsaw 1920 or Reverse.
