Jarosław Zdanowicz: Gasherbrum II

March 17th, 2020, 6 PM
Fama Club, 5 Legionowa Street
tickets: 12 PLN

Jarosław ZdanowiczBiałystoker, has been actively practicing mountain climbing for 35 years. He gained his first skills during short trips on the rocks of the Jura, the next stage was to complete a rock and mountain climbing course. He climbed mainly in winter, he learned to move in difficult and extreme conditions.

The next step was the Alps and the Matterhorn (4,478 m a.s.l.). This trip inspired him to look for even higher goals. One of them was the summit in Kyrgyzstan – Khan Tengri (7010 m a.s.l.) and although the weather thwarted his plans, the trip was a good lesson of traveling at high altitude. He climbed the next mountain, Ama Dablam (6812 m a.s.l.) in the Himalayas with his friend Łukasz.

Finally, the time has come to make his dreams come true – Gasherbrum II (Pakistan, Karakorum) at the age of 52. The expedition itself lasted two months, and reaching the summit – 27 days. He reached the summit in the company of Janusz Adamski. Jaroslaw Zdanowicz’s success was the summit without oxygen nor the help of Sherpas and he will tell us about this expedition. As he says: “Getting an eight-thousander is a difficult task, but such joy and satisfaction cannot be compared with anything.”
