Ryszard Jakubowski: Via Balkanica is my original project, which involved walking across the Balkans. During my trip I marched through six Balkan countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Bulgaria. During over three months of expedition, I covered over 2,200 kilometers and a number of elevations equal to seven times climbing Everest.

In this story, however, I do not want to focus on the number of kilometers or altitude. Beating space at a walker’s pace, we have the opportunity to experience it in an unusual way. We can look and try to understand. If we do this long enough, it may come to us and whisper its story to us. It felt like a lover. During our meeting, I want to tell you about my meeting with six Balkan lovers.

Ryszard Jakubowski – studied in Poland, Scotland and Bulgaria. A lawyer by profession, though he did a variety of professions: from running a restaurant in Masuria to working in a German toy factory. He began traveling with hitchhiking trips to Turkey, Georgia and Armenia.

In love with the Balkans, especially Bulgaria, where he often returns.
