Summary of “Days for Dancing ” project by Tomasz Bazan

Days for Dancing – documentary about Tomasz Bazan’ s performance, meeting with the artist.

“Days for Dancing” is Tomasz Bazan’s unusual performance-project, held in early May at the Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok. It was carried out and recorded during three days of interaction with the artist. Everything was based on a meeting. Tomasz Bazan danced for people visiting him, bringing their ideas and dreams to fruition. During the meetings they determined the rules of mutual relations, dance or conversations. The context and identity of the place and the visitor were important, shaping this meditation.

This time we shall meet with the artist in a larger group, watch the film by Tomasz Bazan and Patrycja Planik, and talk about the project. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the impressions of people who participated in this extraordinary endeavour. We are going to talk about contemporary dance, its position in the world of art and the role of the spectator. Shall we watch dance or experience it? Who is the performer, who is the recipient and does it matter? Does the space matter? We might also find out what the artist experienced during those meetings.

The film and meeting with the artist, moderated by Natalia Wilk.

“DAYS FOR DANCING is Tomasz Bazan’s extraordinary performance, showing the value of dance and meeting clashed with conceptual art. The dancer knowingly waives the context of the stage and the audience to look for real contact with people and perform an artistic act without the baggage  of drama, the narrative and critique. Tomasz Bazan’s performance is a highly impactive act of realizing what will happen if the public will erase the artist and the art from social space. ” – Maria Marick, Zbąszyń 2013
