The Beat Freaks
Music group consisting of some outstanding jazz musicians with the Szczecin-Danish origin. The Scandinavian character of the music is due to the fact that half of the band developed their musical language while learning in the prestigious music academy in Odense. This affected the sound of the band and the courageous approach to the form.

The band was founded in 2014 by Michał Starkiewicz (guitar), who invited Tomasz Licak (tenor saxophone) and Paweł Grzesiuk (bass) as well as a Copenhagen-resident Radek Wośko (drums) to cooperate. After several lengthy sessions the material was crystalized and finally presented to audiences in Szczecin in 2015 and Christiania Jazz Club in Copenhagen in February 2016. The author of most of the compositions is the leader of the band – Michał Starkiewicz. Both concerts were very warmly received by the audience, which resulted in a longer concert tour in Poland and a studio session. In March 2016 at Studio Soyuz in Łódź the band recorded their debut album, which had its premiere in October that year. Debut album “Leon” was released on the well-known label Gateway Music from Denmark. The album was very warmly received by both music critics and musicians.

Musicians are diverting from the stereotypes of jazz forms, offering music that is a kind of a story. In their music we will find inspirations from both Slavic folk, ethnic or even rock music. At the same time, the band’s music remains fresh with reference to the sound of modern jazz. The trademark of the ensemble is an unusual and open approach to composition and arrangement.
