This is a special year, the nature of which is reflected in the photographs sent to the 11th edition of the “The Man next to Me” competition. The topic of the pandemic has often been raised. Isolation caused that, on the one hand, we suddenly found ourselves very close to each other, on the other hand, that social distances, differences and divisions became more acute. Among the submitted photographs, the presence of street photography attracted attention – not only the one documenting social activity in public space (protests, marches, etc.), but also arising from the need to carefully observe everyday situations specific to the street photography trend. When making the selection, we tried to follow the quality of the photographic images, but also the authors’ decisions regarding the interpretation of the competition topic through the prism of currently important social issues, although often shown from a personal or intimate point of view. During the session, we worked on the basis of the submitted photos, not knowing the names of the authors. Only after the selection was made, it turned out that both Grand Prix awards were awarded to the same person, which is an unprecedented situation in the history of the competition.
