¿Underground / Independent? 2018

For almost two decades, the ¿UNDERGROUND/INDEPENDENT? has been causing creative commotion in Białystok, proposing original films, concerts, exhibitions, master classes, and meetings. It is the 18th edition of the festival already and two artistically intense weekends: March 9th-11th and March 16th-18th!

What about this year? Lots of events that will give you positive energy, provide strong emotions, sometimes they will make you laugh, and sometimes they will make you think. Marcin Podolec, a well-known Polish graphic artist and illustrator, created this year’s graphic design of the festival.

You will watch films about the famous Fugazi music club, about the contemporary centre of independent cultural life in Łódź. About… blocks that for decades have been both the object of Poles’ dreams and the place from which they flee. About the extraordinary artist Joseph Beuys, about underground Tehran DJs, as well as an innovative musical image inspired by the iconic popular science TV show “Sonda”! The schedule also includes The Best Off I Love Weird Films.

The underground stage will host: Niemoc, BNNT, and Elektryczny Węgorz among others!

You will view Marcin Podolec’ comic panel exhibition “A Fairy Tale at the End of the World” (“Bajka na końcu świata”), Dream Team drawing and comic book collective’s exhibition “Works and Crafts” (“Prace i robótki”), and on the inside wall of the Forum cinema – large tape mural created by the Berlin SELFMADEcrew.

Seniors will learn to make tattoos, young people – create comics, and children – create posters and tape graffiti!

The program also includes meetings, discussions and debates – our guests will include Kuba Wandachowicz, Marcin Podolec, Leszek Gnoiński, Tomasz Knittel, Konrad Królikowski, and Dawid Gryza among others.
