Sarajevo on 28 of June, 2014. At the Hotel Europa, the best hotel in town, the manager Omer prepares to welcome a delegation of diplomatic VIPs. On the centenary of the assassination that is considered to have led to World War I, an appeal for peace and understanding is supposed to start from here. But the hotel staff have other worries: having not been paid for months, they are planning to go on strike. Hatidza from the hotel laundry is elected strike leader even though her daughter Lamija, who works in reception, is firmly against industrial action. Meanwhile, in the sealed-off presidential suite, a guest from France rehearses a speech. Elsewhere, a television reporter conducts interviews about war and its consequences. Was Gavrilo Princip, the 1914 assassin, a criminal or a national hero? What long shadow does his deed cast into the present?

Witold just failed his law-school exams and Fuchs has just quit his job at a Parisian fashion company. Arriving for a few days away at a so-called family guesthouse, they are greeted by a series of unsettling omens: a sparrow hanging in the forest, then a piece of wood in the same condition, and finally signs on the ceiling and in the garden. In this guest house there is also a baleful mouth, that of the maid, and a perfect mouth, that of the young woman of the house with whom Witold falls madly in love. Unfortunately, she has just married an architect of the most respectable sort. But is the young woman equally respectable? The third hanging, that of the cat, is Witold’s doing. Why did he do it? And above all – will the fourth hanging be that of a human?

An orange Chevrolet Impala drives across a cemetery towards an abandoned shipwreck in the middle of a desert landscape. It is the 22nd of January, 1965. The day before, the Iranian prime minister was shot dead in front of the parliament building. Inside the wreck, a banished political prisoner has hung himself. The walls are covered in diary entries, literary quotes and strange symbols. Can they help Police Inspector Babak Hafizi in his investigations? Will they shed any light on why there is always an earthquake whenever somebody is buried in this desert cemetery?
Assisted by a sound engineer and a geologist, Hafizi begins his investigations on the ancient island of Qeshm in the Persian Gulf. Fifty years later, their entire evidence, along with intelligence tape recordings, are found in a box, the contents of which attest to the fact that the inspector and his colleagues were arrested. But why? In his new film, Mani Haghighi once again creates a grotesquely absurd experimental set-up. His playful reenactment of mysterious events revolves around a real-life episode – but also imagines a truth of its own.

Belgica is the story of two brothers: charismatic and temperamental Frank – a husband, father, and incurable womaniser – and his ambitious-but-green younger brother Jo, who owns a bar called Belgica. They become business partners and quickly Belgica becomes the place to be for great music, beautiful people, and debauched fun – until they learn that running a business on this scale is more complicated than they realised, and their relationship and personal lives suffer. Belgica is an immersive experience of the excess and euphoria of being in the hottest nightclub in town. Set to the eclectic sounds of acclaimed Belgian band Soulwax, the film shows the brothers’ intoxicating ascent to success – and the crash and burn that follows. Belgica is about living in the moment and realising that moving forward is not only inevitable but necessary.

Hedi: prod. Tunis, Belgium, France 2016, dir. Mohamed Ben Attia, 88’
Hedi is a simple young man. He is not very talkative or reactive and does not expect much from the life that is traced for him. He just takes life as it comes. He allows his authoritarian and overwhelming mother organise his marriage to Khedija. He allows his boss send him on a prospection trip to Mahdia during the week of his wedding celebrations, and he allows Ahmed, his brother who has come back from France specially to take part in the ceremony, dictate how he should behave. In other words, he takes it all as it comes. He understands what is happening to him, but he just waits for things to go by. In Mahdia, he meets Rim who works as an activity leader in a hotel, a seaside resort that is losing its tourists. At first, intrigued by her insouciance and frivolity, Hedi ends by getting involved in a passionate love relationship. In the meantime while the wedding preparations go on, Hedi is finally forced to make a choice.

Philippe Mars is a reasonable man in an unreasonable world. He’s trying to be a good father, a kind ex-husband, a nice colleague, an understanding sibling… But the planets have not been exactly aligned in his favor lately. With his son turning into a hardcore vegan, his daughter into a pathological overachiever and his sister selling oversized paintings of their naked parents, it seems to our ever-so prudent Philippe that everyone around him is starting to behave more and more erratically…
When his more than over the top colleague Jerôme accidentally chops off his ear  and then moves into Philippe’s apartment, things start to go from bad to insane for our hero.
