Jakub Socha “Żebrowski. Hipnotyzer”
In his youth, he traveled around Poland with Marek Hłasko, wrote poems and fought on fists. Then he studied at the Łódź Film School and served a term in prison. After release, he co-founded the “Tor” Film Studio, where he collaborated with Krzysztof Zanussi, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Stanisław Różewicz and many others. At the same time, he was making his own films and for many years was struggling with a painful disease. When that prevented him from furthering his career, he devoted himself to teaching – he brought up several generations of filmmakers. Edward Żebrowski – a great loner of Polish cinema – had already become a legend during his lifetime, though he never solicited it. The book is an attempt to face his legend.

Broad Daylight
Set in 1905. The story focuses on a young and inexperienced man in a revolutionary execution squad. He does his killing job out of idealism, and for the love of a woman. The young student murders a Russian spy and is afterwards arrested by the police. Much to his surprise he is released after a session with the traitor-judge, hinting at some leaks in the organization. Student reports his suspicions back to the organization, but in response is given a new hit mission, aimed at a Polish writer believed to be collaborating with the Russians. The killer comes to Cracow where the writer lives and comes to a conclusion that perhaps the writer is innocent, since there is no conclusive evidence.

Jakub Socha
Film critic. He is the head of the film redaction at the dwutygodnik.com. He was writing for “Kino” and “Film” magazines among others. He was born in Stalowa Wola, studied in Poznań, lives in Warsaw.
